I joined Meta on December 6th, 2021 as an E4 Software Engineer. It's been a couple of years into my career at this point. Funny enough, while I was interviewing, the company was known as Facebook at the time. At Meta, I had the privilege of being a part of the Reality Labs organization where I worked on Project Aria alongside a talented team of engineers and designers. Leveraging my experience at Microsoft, onboarding and ramping up was not as intimidating as when I first entered the industry out of college. Working with the Aria Companion App Team, I played a crucial role as a fullstack engineer, responsible for building a notification system from scratch, which was vital to driving up user engagement and retention. This was important to Project Aria because the more users we had, the more data we had. And the more data we had, the more we could train our algorithms. In my year on the team, I managed to deliver the feature and saw an immediate impact through metrics captured by my logging work. To build the notification system, I collaborated closely with other engineers on the team, as well as cross-functional partners such as designers and product managers. We would have regular meetings to discuss the design of the system, the technical requirements, and the priorities of the team. I also worked closely with the QA team to ensure that the feature was well-tested and ready for release. On the frontend, I used React Native to build out features, native work, and UI for our iOS and Android apps, while on the backend, I created new or extended key business logic for the features I was responsible for, utilizing GraphQL as our main tech stack for both frontend and backend. Overall, this experience helped me develop my skills as a team player and problem solver, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to such an impactful project.
